The Type 992 is the eighth generation of the Porsche 911, introduced in 2019.
The 992 arrived in 2019 with wider bodywork for every version, a full-width rear light bar and an interior built around screens rather than dials. Turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-sixes power the Carrera range, from roughly 385 hp to 480 hp in the Carrera GTS, while the Turbo S uses 3.7 litres and about 650 hp. The GT3 keeps a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre engine that revves to 9000 rpm, and specials such as the S/T and the raised, gravel-ready Dakar show how far the platform stretches. Most versions are sold with the eight-speed PDK gearbox, though a manual remains available on selected models. The 2024 update added hybrid assistance to the GTS, the first electrified 911. Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa bodies continue, with rear- or four-wheel drive.
The 992 continues the 911 line without abandoning its core rear-engine layout. Its broad and still-expanding variant range makes generation-level descriptions useful for history, but insufficient for a particular trim.
