The Hyundai i20 N is the high-performance version of the third-generation i20 hatchback. It combines the compact five-door body with a turbocharged petrol engine and front-wheel drive. Power comes from a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine producing 204 hp, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. A mechanical limited-slip differential helps the front axle put the power down when cornering hard. The chassis received firmer suspension, stronger brakes and more direct steering than the regular i20. Hyundai also gave the car a more expressive body treatment, with wider-looking bumpers, side skirts and a roof spoiler. Despite its performance focus, the i20 N remains a practical small hatchback with five seats and a usable luggage area. Its character is closely linked to Hyundai’s N performance programme and the company’s experience in rallying, although the road car is not a direct WRC derivative. The i20 N is notable for retaining a manual transmission at a time when many small performance cars were moving towards automated gearboxes. With a top speed of about 230 km/h and a 0–100 km/h time of around 6.2 seconds, it sits among the quickest front-wheel-drive cars in its class.
